Higher Education - Communication by Tweet

Social media is here to stay. Since the first tweet back on March 21, 2006, Twitter claims an average of 126 million users every single day. While growth has tapered off, it seems it’s here to stay, with everyone from teenagers sharing video game tips to world leaders announcing changes in their cabinets on the platform.
Leaders in higher education are establishing their presence on Twitter as a means of recruiting and retaining students, alumni, and faculty. According to the website Education Dive, this group is 10% more likely to use social media than leaders in the corporate world. Being active on social media helps these leaders and their respective institutions get their messages out efficiently and into a space they can be assured their desired audience visits regularly. By sending out messages depicting campus life, events, and even photos of their pets, leaders add a personal touch to their role, maintain connections and build school pride.
